In brief, they are of joy.
The specific incident:
The basses were singing a bit over and over, trying to get the notes, and he made them do it individually, and he said one did un "r" anglais - at which I commented that it wasn't really English, very much. So I sang the line (which was Latin - the Magnificat, fecit potentiam in brachio suo, dispersit superbos...) in an English accent, which they agreed wasn't actually very different to the way we had been singing it.
Then I sang it in Somerset. Just... Wurzelify the Magnificat in your head next time you hear it. We all had hysterics. Just a little.
